What are the main types of container lashing and securing equipment, and what is the function of each?
Container securing equipment is essential for maritime safety. It is used to secure containers to the vessel and to each other. The main types include:
Twist Locks: These are the most critical locking devices. They are used to lock the vertical connection between containers or between a container and the ship's foundation. They secure the containers' corner castings, preventing movement and dislodging during rough seas.
Stacking Cones / Stackers: Primarily used for positioning and preventing horizontal sliding. They are placed between container tiers to provide a stable stack and prevent lateral movement.
Bridge Fittings: These provide a horizontal connection between two adjacent rows of containers. By linking the stacks together, they distribute forces and improve the overall stability of the stowage.
